The C-PHEP is a collaboration between the University of Adelaide, the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN), the University of Southampton, and the University Hospital Southampton. Read on below to see our key affiliations.

    PARC Clinical Research

    PARC Clinical Research is a high acuity clinical trials unit within the Royal Adelaide Hospital (CALHN). PARC Clinical Research designs and conducts Industry Phase 1- 3 clinical trials across all clinical specialties, as well as grant-funded investigator-initiated clinical trials, managing approx. 30-40 clinical trials at any given time.  In addition, it has a Charter to support health services improvement initiatives within CALHN.

    The Southampton Biomedical Research Centre

    The National Institute for Health and Care Research's (NIHR) Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is a longstanding partnership between the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHSFT), funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The NIHR Southampton BRC aims to improve people’s health and resilience throughout life by developing better treatments and care. The Centre comprises over 600 researchers and aims to improve quality-of-life through: Nutrition, Lifestyle and Metabolism; Respiratory and Allergy; Data, Health and Society; Microbiology, Immunology and Infection; and Perioperative and Critical Care.

    Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC)

    CPOC is a cross-organisational, multidisciplinary initiative led by the Royal College of Anaesthetists to facilitate cross-organisational working on perioperative care for patient benefit. CPOC is a partnership between patients and the public, other professional stakeholders including Medical Royal Colleges, NHS England and the equivalent bodies responsible for healthcare in the other UK devolved nations.

    Prof G Ludbrook

    C-PHEP Co-Lead

    Prof Ludbrook is Professor of Anaesthesia at University of Adelaide and Royal Adelaide Hospital, Director of PARC Clinical Research, and Director of Innovation at Central Adelaide Local Health Network. His professional interests include Anaesthesia and perioperative medicine; Pharmacology; Clinical trials; Health services improvement, and Health economics.

    Prof M Grocott

    C-PHEP Co-Lead

    Prof Grocott is Professor of anaesthesia and critical care medicine at the University of Southampton, Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research's (NIHR) Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, an elected council member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and founder of the national Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC).

    Esrom Leaman

    C-PHEP Fellow

    Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, as well as an Anaesthetics trainee in South Australia. His research focuses on perioperative health economics, including the cost-effectiveness of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs and economic evaluations of perioperative surgical pathways. With a background in mathematics and statistics, he has a strong interest in clinical trials and the role of artificial intelligence in anaesthesia. Dr Leaman has published in leading journals and is actively involved in research and teaching at the University of Adelaide.

    Mrs Kathy Heyman

    C-PHEP Manager

    Kathy Heyman is  an RN, BSN, is an experienced research nurse with over 15 years of practice in the field. Specializing in research and patient care, Kathy is dedicated to advancing perioperative safety and enhancing patient outcomes. With a strong background in evidence-based practice and clinical research, Kathy has contributed to several studies on preoperative and postoperative care protocols and is committed to education, mentoring and bridging the gap between clinical practise and research. This regularly involves contributing to the ongoing development of perioperative best practices.
